The Spirit of Tradition Class was established
for recently built vessels that have been built along 'classic' lines
using modern techniques and materials. Yachts in this class must have
a 'look' that is true to a traditional design and must demonstrate
excellent craftsmanship and tradition both on deck and in the hull.
They may, however have modern underbodies
and appendages, and use modern technology in their rigs. The Committee
does not seek a large number of entries for this class. Rather, we
seek yachts that are exceptional, and those whose owners have gone
the extraordinary lengths to ensure that their vessel maintains the
beauty and lines characteristic of fine yachts built in the past.
All yachts wishing to enter this class
must complete a pre-entry form and be approved by the Classic Regatta
Committee before they can be accepted and invited to fill out an entry
form. Several vessels which may have competed in the past in the Classic
Class are now included in this class, especially those that do not
have full keels.
Entries in this class are not eligible
for trophies in the Regatta's existing award structure; instead, they
compete for prizes of their own. The Committee is delighted that the
legendary yacht Ticonderoga sponsors the trophy for First Overall
in this class.
It is the Regatta Committee's hope that
by creating the Spirit of Tradition Class, we can continue to encourage
the future building of exceptional yachts that keep the classic traditions
alive.

Truly Classic has been to the Antigua Classic Yacht
Regatta many times and is the epitome
of a Spirit of Tradition yacht. Designed by Andre Hoek
and built by Klass Bood in 1994,
this 64-ft. cutter-rigged sloop won 1st place in Spirit of Tradition
B in 2001
